Mamite, 43, is a devoted mother raising her two daughters, Chaltu (15) and Denbale (13), on her own. Her husband lives in another town and provides no support, leaving Mamite solely responsible for her family’s care and well-being. The family faces immense hardship. After an accident, Denbale developed a severe back condition and has been bedridden for two years. Without the financial means to access adequate medical treatment, Mamite carries the daily heartbreak of watching her daughter suffer. Mamite survives through small-scale farming, producing only about two quintals of maize each year—far from enough to meet her family’s needs. Despite these challenges, she remains determined to build a better future.
