Lydia is a resilient 75-year-old widow living in Kibera, Kenya. She supports herself through a small business selling groundnuts and second-hand clothes, which she was able to expand in July 2025 through the FHI small business program. Despite significant health challenges—including high blood pressure, asthma, ulcers, and a past hernia operation—Lydia remains hardworking and deeply committed to sustaining her independence. She lives alone and rents a modest home. Her Catholic faith and community connections provide strength and encouragement. Lydia has recently lost sponsorship support and is in need of renewed assistance to maintain stability, strengthen her business, and continue progressing toward self-sufficiency with dignity and perseverance. We expect Lydia to graduate in Fall of 2027.
