Brenda is a 40-year-old single mother raising her two children, Roman (9) and Ruby (6), in Kibera. After the painful end of her marriage, Brenda has remained determined to keep her family together and create a stable future for her children. Through the FHI small business program, she received business training and a small loan that allowed her to open a second-hand clothing business, which has shown encouraging progress. Her children are healthy, active, and doing well in school, and the family remains deeply rooted in their faith and community.  Currently, Brenda has lost program support and is working hard to sustain her small business, but income remains unstable. With renewed support, Brenda can stabilize her business, meet her children’s basic needs, and continue moving toward long-term self-sufficiency. We expect Brenda to graduate in early 2028.
