Jesca Auma is a devoted mother living in Kibera, Kenya, with her husband George and their four children, all of whom are attending school. With limited formal education, Jesca and George have remained committed to creating better opportunities for their family. In the past, Jesca supported the household by washing clothes for others while George worked informal “Jua Kali” jobs, leaving the family financially stretched.
Through determination and support, Jesca was able to start a small salon business in June 2025 through the FHI small business program. The business is now operating well and has brought greater stability to the family, helping meet food and basic needs and allowing the children to remain in school. This family has recently lost sponsorship support and is seeking continued partnership as they work toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency. We expect this family to graduate in about 18 months.
